STEAM is not about learning facts.
It’s about fun, imagination, creativity, curiosity, exploration and innovation.

At Eureka! Mersey we will seek to create a dynamic world of STEAM for young people to explore, learn within, and ‘own’ – and in so doing prepare the next generation with future-proofed skills and the confidence to play an active role in shaping our future.

To do this, we will start with our audiences – young people, their world, their interests, motivations and aspirations to make it relevant. We are working with external partners to give Eureka! Mersey real-world significance. We will support visitors through participatory, open-ended journeys to engage young people in the process of exploring, investigating and experimenting, rather than presenting didactic knowledge to absorb.

Eureka! Mersey will be collaborative and social.

Crucially, we will give young people a taste of what it means, and what it takes, to influence the world around them – there and then, hands-on, applying their learning and skills at Eureka! Mersey.

Our primary interpretive audience is 8 to 14-year-olds with a particular focus on young people aged 10+ who are in the process of making a transition from primary to secondary school and beginning to identify learning preferences and make subject choices based on personal interest, skills and experiences.

The spaces and galleries we design will appeal to young people aged 12-14, be aspirational for 10 to 12-year-olds while still providing interest, access and engagement for under 10’s and the exceptional offer for under 5’s that Eureka! is known for.
